about

Native to Portland, Jo Whitsell left in 1983 to pursue a career in the arts. In 1992 she moved to New York City where she earned an MFA at the School of Visual Arts. Running a gallery in Chelsea and being part of the art world was exilarating but it wasn't her aspiration. In 2003, she graduated with honors from Tristate College of Acupuncture, one of the oldest acupuncture schools in the nation and started a clinic in Park Slope Brooklyn with other practitioners. She has recently moved back to the northwest and loves being a part of Portland.

Jo has participated in post-graduate studies with numerous master practitioners who have helped her become the practitioner she is today. This includes interning with Arya Neilsen at Beth Israel's Continuum Center for Health & Healing in NYC. Lorie Dechar, L.Ac, author of Five Spirits: Alchemical Acupuncture for Psychological And Spiritual Healing has been a strong influence and Jo has completed three 1 year-long mentorships in Alchemical Acupuncture with Ms. Dechar. She holds a Green Medicine certificate in western herbs & completed a year long course in Practical Homeopathy as taught by Peeka Trenkle AHG, CCE. She has taken courses taught by various master practitioners including Dr. Mary Bove and Randine Lewis, L.Ac

In her spare time Jo loves to garden, bike, swim, play piano, read her New Yorker, study Jung and be with her family creating chicken coops, tree houses, and dinner. She also loves to travel and has visited numerous countries such as Tibet, Bhutan, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Botswana, Libya and Russia.

She currently has a full-time practice in Portland, OR.
